Kūkaku and Ganju have always been of similar temperament. They shout and they yell. They laugh loudly and prefer to wear their hearts on their sleeves. A punch to the gut can be just as loving as a gentle hug. For all that they are the same, however, there is a gap between them that cannot heal.

Shiba Kaien is a shinigami of incredible note. He is also the third point of their triangle. A piece of their family puzzle, capable of reining in their worst impulses.

He is also dead, and has taken a part of them with him.
