A/N: I'm rereading and liveblogging the series, and I just finished Renji's fight against Byakuya in the Soul Society. My heart.
He can feel her touch for days afterward. Her hands are always so small and delicate and cool, but in the moment when she brushed him away and rushed past him he felt the contact of her skin like a brand, burning into him.
Hinamori and Kira seem to speak quieter around him, and classes seem less important. He hardly hears the graduation ceremony, cradling his hand, rubbing the scalded skin with his thumb.
His whole world has narrowed to his hands, the way it felt in the moment that might have been the last time he ever touched her.
